The second largest coral reef in the world stretches off the coast of Belize and is particularly popular with divers. The offshore islands (Cayes), with their white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water, offer a paradise-like feeling. In the interior of the country, there are still numerous Mayan cult sites to admire, such as the ruins of Lamanai in the Orange Walk district. Since the coast is often overrun by strong hurricanes from July to October, the best time to travel is between December and April.
