An interactive and animated map that displays current and projected weather. The information that is available includes rain and snowfall, snow and cloud cover and temperature.
Where does the data come from?
The data we use comes from MetGIS, which combines weather models and terrain data to create ultra-accurate forecasts. Covering up to 30 meters, MetGIS forecasts are among the best in the world.
The insertion of cloud and snow cover is provided via ExoLabs.
What makes MetGIS so accurate?
MetGIS uses a set of highly innovative forecasting techniques that combine numerical weather forecasting models with extemely detailed terrain data. This methodology is even reflected in the name “MetGIS”, with “Met” standing for ''meteorology' and ''GIS'' being an abbreviation for 'Geographical Information System'. Especially over mountainous terrain, MetGIS has clear advantages over conventional systems, as the exact altitude and forecasting point locations are included in the process.
The different styles
Our weather map is presented in three styles. The general 'weather' style includes temperature, rain and snowfall, and clouds. For those who are primarily interested in current or future snow conditions, there is also a 'snow 'style, which displays existing snow cover and forecasts for fresh snow. With the 'temperature' style the map is colored accordingly based on the temperature. A legend is available for each of the three styles to explain what the color gradients represent.

Outdooractive Editors
With the interactive snow map you can see where and how much snow there is (snow cover). It also gives a snow forecast.

HOW DO I manually ACTIVATE THE LAYER?
The function is currently only available on the website via the ''maps and trails'' layers section at the bottom right of the map screen. Activate the OSM or Outdooractive map. select "Weather & Snow" under 'Style'.
