The last chocolate Father Christmases have only just been eaten, and already many a dieter is facing the next acid test, only this time wearing floppy ears instead of the long white razzle-dazzle beard. The Easter bunny is hopping through Rhineland-Palatinate, and if you don't want to atone for the little sweet sins in your Easter basket, the best thing to do is combine it with a tour in the fresh air. We have therefore put together a few colourful suggestions for beautiful hikes at Easter in Rhineland-Palatinate.
They meander along narrow paths on the steep, vine-lined slopes of the Rhine, Moselle and Nahe or over the panoramic heights of the Soonwald, Lahn and Westerwald. Sometimes crisp and sporty, sometimes relaxed. Relics of past times line the paths: defiant castles and monasteries in powerful places. Rugged basalt and slate rocks and mighty red sandstone towers tower over mystical forest passages. Mysterious mining tunnels remind us of how man wrestled his treasures from the primary rock. And along the way, hospitable winegrowers and down-to-earth innkeepers invite you to a sociable "Schoppe" or snack and serve regional delicacies, sometimes traditional, sometimes in a modern guise.
On which one do you fill up on oxygen and burn off the chocolate calories?
