The Principality of Liechtenstein is one of the smallest countries in the world. The country, which is located on the right bank of the Rhine between Austria and Switzerland, covers only 160km. The most diverse landscapes lie close together in a very small area in Liechtenstein. Especially the east and southeast of the country enjoy an excellent reputation among hikers and mountain bikers. Versatile Liechtenstein
It is only a few kilometers from the flat Rhine plain in the west with its small towns and villages to the high mountains of the Rätikon in the east and south. In between, however, there is plenty to discover. For example, Liechtenstein's landmark, Vaduz Castle. It is located on an elevation about 120 meters above the capital Vaduz and is the seat of the royal family, which still provides the head of state of the small country. Numerous museums, exhibitions and events in all eleven municipalities allow visitors to dive deep into the rich history and cultural diversity of Lichtenstein.
Winter paradise Malbun
The best starting point for winter sports activities in Liechtenstein is the region around Malbun with its ski area. The entire range of winter sports is covered here: athletes can climb one of the snow-covered mountains on touring skis or snowshoes, marvel at the landscape on a winter hike or take advantage of the 23 kilometers of pistes in the ski area.
The latter offers its visitors many easy and intermediate slopes, making it particularly suitable for beginners and children. The family-friendly atmosphere was also rewarded with the "Families Welcome" seal of approval. Nevertheless, the other guests are not neglected. The ski area is also equipped with a fun park for free riders and snowboarders, and there are more difficult routes for advanced skiers. Relaxing breaks in the winter sun are also well catered for with various places to stop for refreshments.

For art and culture lovers, there is plenty on offer in all eleven towns in Liechtenstein, but especially in the capital Vaduz. Numerous museums and exhibitions allow visitors to delve deeply into the rich history and cultural diversity of the country. In addition, there are galleries and art collections, architectural highlights, and a lively pedestrian zone for shopping and strolling– Liechtenstein may be small, but its opportunities are great.
Vanduz Castle - the capital's landmark
The Vaduz Castle should definitely be visited while in the capital. The history of the castle dates back to the 12th century. Even those not interested in history will enjoy the castle thanks to the spectacular view.

High up in the Liechtenstein mountains
Nature lovers will find wide meadows and vineyards in the Rhine plain, which invite them to go on leisurely hiking routes. However, the Principality of Liechtenstein shows its most beautiful side in its mountains. Anyone who walks here can not only admire the rugged cliffs of the Alps and the biodiversity of the flora and fauna but also has a particularly beautiful panoramic view as far as Switzerland and Austria.
Hiking on the Liechtenstein Panorama Trail
In summer, the Liechtenstein mountains attract hikers and mountain bikers alike. All visitors are welcome, regardless of their level of fitness. The dense network of hiking trails offers easy and moderately difficult routes. Difficult routes await mountaineers, especially in the high mountain regions of the Rätikon.
The distinctive peaks of the "Three Sister" mountain range are said to have been formed when the sisters did not go to church on Sundays but went berry picking and were petrified as punishment. A mountain trail leads up to the three rocky peaks, which was opened as early as 1898. It is part of the Liechtenstein Panorama Trail, which leads in three daily stages from south to north through the most beautiful corners of the Principality.

Whoever gets hungry after a hike through the Liechtenstein Alps can also look forward to culinary highlights. Whether you prefer a cosy meal in a rustic mountain hut or a particularly stylish meal in a star restaurant in the valley, there is something for every taste. You should definitely try Käsknnpfle with apple sauce, a Liechtenstein speciality, and the local wine. The mild climate in the Rhine Valley is particularly suitable for growing grapes.
