The 10 most beautiful ski touring routes in Hintersee
The best beginner ski tours in Hintersee
After a north or north-west weather situation, the snow in Hintersee sometimes piles up metres high. The small village has one of the highest precipitation rates in Salzburger Land and is therefore very popular with winter fans. „There is always something going on in Hintersee“ is often heard among ski tourers in Salzburg.
Due to the manageable height of the mountains around Hintersee, beginners in particular will find good touring opportunities. The classic beginners' tours in the region to the Zwouml;lferhorn and the Wieserhörndl start in the municipal area of Faistenau and Gaissau respectively, but with the tours to the Bergköpfl and via the educational touring trail to the Anzenberg, Hintersee also offers good beginner tours.
For those with a little more experience, the Hohe Zinken is a good choice. The popular tour starts at the car park in Lämmerbach and leads up to the Genneralm via a forest path. After a short intermediate descent, there is a steady climb up to the summit of the Zinken. Here you have a great view of numerous Salzkammergut mountains and the downhill run often offers good snow as well.

Ski touring classics around Hintersee
The great thing about the touring area around Hintersee is the possibility to continuously increase the difficulty of the tours. After the Hohe Zinken, the Regenspitz is the next destination. The tour, which starts at the Satzstein car park, is easy over long stretches, but the last stretch up to the summit often has its pitfalls and requires an experienced ascent technique. The Regenspitz is also often combined with the Bergküpfl.
Another classic in the Osterhorn group is the tour to the Gennerhorn. The ascent is first through the forest to the Genneralm, where you enter the steep eastern slope. After several hairpin bends, you reach the Schlüsselstelle, a short steep step that can be somewhat unpleasant in hard conditions. Now a wonderful descent back to the Genneralm awaits. In very (!) safe conditions, good skiers also choose the northern variant, which is, however, considerably steeper. The descent along the ascent track is easier and safer.
