Its average incline is a good nine percent, but your efforts are awarded with stunning views of the Julian Alps. For an even greater cycling challenge you can tackle a 350-km king circle from Kranjska Gora via Vršič mountain pass to the Trenta Valley, past Bovec towards Predel Pass to the Italian side past Travision and back to Kranjska Gora.
Cycling through Vršič Pass from Kranjska Gora to Bovec
The Vršič Pass is one of the most “famous” road cycling climbs in Slovenia. You start your climb to this 1,611-m high pass from Kranjska Gora, past a picturesque Jasna Lake and Russian Chapel. After 25 serpentines you are at the pass surrounded by Mojstrovka on one side and the Prisank mountain on the other. You can rest at the Poštarski dom mountain hut where you can gather new strengths for the descent to the Trenta Valley and further cycling along the Soča River to Bovec. The cycling tour is 70 km long with a 900 m climb and a 1,300 m descent. Do not miss the traditional cycling challenge “Juriš na Vršič” in September, which is one of the most popular cycling events in Slovenia.
